First protests begin in Iran...

Protests have begun at universities in Iran.

TodayPress TV reports, citing local media, that students are staging a protest at Allameh Tabataba’i University in Tehran.

According to reports, the students’ grievances are related to rising costs, the mandatory hijab requirement and conditions on the university campus.

The main focus now is on whether the protests will remain limited to Allameh Tabataba’i University or spread to other universities in Tehran as well as other parts of the country.

Iranian universities have periodically been among the main centres of organized protests throughout the country’s history. For this reason, whether similar demonstrations begin at other higher education institutions is considered particularly significant.
