Chinese champion’s record falls: 17-year-old Japanese swimmer makes history

Seventeen-year-old Japanese swimmer Shin Ohashi has set a new world record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Asian Games being held in Japan.

TodayPress TV reports that the young athlete completed the distance in 2 minutes and 4.83 seconds, producing a historic result.

With this performance, Ohashi broke the record of China’s Qin Haiyang, who set the previous mark of 2:05.48 at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.

Kyrgyzstan’s Denis Petrashov finished second with a time of 2:08.67, while South Korea’s Cho Seong-jae won the bronze medal in 2:08.76.

It should be noted that at the current Asian Games, Shin Ohashi had previously won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke, as well as two silver medals in the men’s and mixed 4×100-meter medley relay events.

The Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, will conclude on October 4.
