Russia resorts to its last resort – It could activate its spies in the Armenian army

A day after Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Armenia’s imprisoned former president Robert Kocharyan on his birthday, Kocharyan’s address to the Armenian people was published.

TodayPress TV reports that political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu said this.

The analyst noted that the phrase “It is important to bring the Pashinyan government to an end” in Kocharyan’s letter effectively amounts to a call for the public to oppose the prime minister who won the elections.

“Robert Kocharyan understands that he may remain in prison for the rest of his life because he faces serious corruption charges. Therefore, he has opted for calls for rebellion. Putin’s birthday congratulations probably encouraged Kocharyan as well,” the expert said.

According to him, if Nikol Pashinyan had heeded Putin’s repeated messages of congratulations to Kocharyan, the former president would not have been imprisoned:

“Months ago, Putin had already warned Pashinyan in front of the media, saying, ‘Stop putting pressure on political forces in Armenia linked to Russia!’ Pashinyan ignored this call as well and sent all the leaders supported by the Kremlin to prison. In other words, Pashinyan is not intimidated by Putin’s threats.”

The political analyst also stressed that Russia’s restrictions on Armenian agricultural products had failed to produce results. He did not rule out the possibility that Russia could use officers in the Armenian army working as spies as an alternative means of creating chaos in Armenia:

“Perhaps they could try to overthrow Pashinyan on the Kremlin’s orders. However, taking this possibility into account, Washington and Brussels are sharing Russia’s intelligence plans concerning Armenia with Pashinyan as well.”

He said it was important for Pashinyan to accelerate the peace process with Azerbaijan and Türkiye:

“The factor that can fully neutralize Russian pressure is the restoration of peace in the region and the expansion of regional cooperation. The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan in Bishkek and the discussions held there should bring closer the day when the peace agreement will be signed.”
