A controversial moment occurred during Olympic champion Zelim Kotsoev’s bout against Armenian-origin athlete Arman Adamyan, who represents Russia, at the World Championships in Baku.

TodayPress TV reports, citing Qafqazinfo, that neither athlete secured a victory during regular time.

The golden score period then saw tense moments. Zelim Kotsoev initially executed a technique against Adamyan that should have earned a yuko score, but the judges did not award the points. Adamyan later performed the same technique. As a result, he was declared the winner.

Despite protests from Zelim and his coach, the decision remained unchanged.

It should be noted that Armenian-origin Armen Bagdasarov, who represents Uzbekistan, is responsible for overseeing refereeing at the World Championships in Baku. He is one of the directors responsible for refereeing at the International Judo Federation. This has raised questions about the decision.

After the bout, Arman Adamyan made an unsportsmanlike gesture towards the stands. Following his victory, he placed his hands behind his ears in a gesture suggesting, “I can’t hear you.”

Zelim Kotsoev was also angered by his opponent’s behaviour and protested against the gesture.
