Tokayev proposes integrating the Middle Corridor with TRIPP
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed discussing the possibility of integrating the Middle Corridor with the TRIPP transport initiative.
TodayPress TV reports that he made the remarks at the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan in Turkmenbashi.
Tokayev said that developing an international transport route across the Caspian Sea was of particular importance. According to him, work is beginning on a major highway project that will connect China with European markets via the Caspian Sea.
The Kazakh president stressed that large-scale modernization of the country’s transport infrastructure would increase the transit importance of the entire region.
Tokayev noted that the North–South Transport Corridor was particularly relevant for Kazakhstan. Citing World Bank estimates, he said that cargo transportation across the Caspian Sea could increase fourfold by 2040 if all planned infrastructure projects were implemented in cooperation with Russia.
“I believe it would be possible to discuss at the expert level the prospects for integrating the Middle Corridor with the TRIPP transport initiative, which would expand existing capacity and serve the long-term interests of all our countries,” Tokayev said.
