Spectators thought it was scripted, but the truth was horrifying: Referee dies in tragic incident
A tragedy occurred during a grappling and wrestling show in Mexico’s Hidalgo state.
TodayPress TV reports, citing local media, that during a match, a wrestler known as “El Hijo de Fishman” performed a dangerous piledriver manoeuvre on 75-year-old referee Gerardo Germán Pineda.
The wrestler turned the referee upside down and slammed him forcefully onto the ring mat.
After the impact left the referee motionless, spectators initially believed the scene was part of the show’s script. However, medical personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that the 75-year-old referee had died.
Reports indicate that no emergency medical team was on duty at the venue where the tournament was held.
Following the incident, the wrestler was detained on suspicion of manslaughter through negligence. He faces a possible prison sentence of five to 15 years.
