Mercedes driver George Russell has been penalised with a grid drop at the Singapore Grand Prix.

TodayPress TV reports, citing an official statement from the International Automobile Federation (FIA), that the decision was announced by the governing body.

The British driver used several new power unit components at the Marina Bay circuit, exceeding the number permitted under the regulations. As Russell changed six components in total, he will serve the penalty in Sunday’s main race rather than the sprint and will start from the back of the grid.

According to a document published by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, Russell has installed his fifth internal combustion engine (ICE) and fifth turbocharger (TC) of the season, along with a new exhaust system, MGU-K, energy store and control electronics.
