Half a million soldiers wait for nightfall to enter the capital

Claims have circulated on social media that nearly 400,000 Yemeni government forces are preparing to advance toward the Houthi-controlled capital, Sana’a.

TodayPress TV reports that hundreds of thousands of Yemeni soldiers have allegedly taken up positions around the capital and are awaiting an operational order to drive the Houthis out of the city.

It is noted that this could develop into a large-scale operation capable of changing the balance of forces in Yemen.

According to available information, forces affiliated with Yemen’s internationally recognized government are estimated to number around 400,000. However, this figure does not mean that all of them are concentrated around Sana’a. According to reports, the bulk of the government forces are stationed in Marib, Taiz, and the country’s southern and eastern governorates.

Sana’a is currently among the areas under Houthi control. There are also reports that Houthi forces have more than 200,000 fighters, although figures provided by the parties are said not to fully reflect their actual combat capabilities.
