EU sanctions Tatarstan leader

The European Union has imposed sanctions on Rustam Minnikhanov, head of the Republic of Tatarstan, over allegations of involvement in the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia.

TodayPress TV reports that the relevant EU Council decision entered into force on September 15.

The EU considers actions by the Russian authorities against Ukrainian minors to constitute unlawful deportation and forced displacement.

It should be noted that in May, the EU imposed restrictive measures on 16 individuals and seven organizations. They were accused of involvement in the deportation, forced assimilation and illegal adoption of Ukrainian children.
