Germany faces suspected electricity terror: What was planned with 21 explosives?
Another nine improvised explosive devices have been discovered in Germany’s Saxony state in connection with a possible sabotage attempt targeting the electricity grid.
TodayPress TV reports, citing Tagesschau, that this brings the total number of such devices discovered by police to 21.
The explosive devices were found near high-voltage power lines located south of the Graustein substation. According to the investigation, the devices were intended to cause short circuits and damage energy infrastructure.
Police defused the devices, preventing an interruption in electricity supplies. The search operation continued from Friday through Sunday.
Similar sabotage attempts have previously been recorded in the states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. One statement claiming responsibility for those incidents reportedly indicated that it contained information about planned attacks in Saxony.
The investigation is ongoing.
