Germany’s Diplomat in Moscow summoned to Russian Foreign Ministry

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Germany’s chargé d’affaires in Moscow, Bernd Finke, over the latest actions and statements by the German authorities against Russia.

TodayPress TV, citing Interfax, reports that the diplomat was invited to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s building on Smolenskaya Square on September 2, where he held talks for nearly an hour.

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s move came after Germany announced that Russia was involved in a drone incident at Leipzig Airport on August 4.

Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry had summoned Russia’s ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechayev, to express its protest. Berlin also announced sanctions against Russia and demanded that the Russian Consulate General in Bonn be closed by September 18.

In addition, Germany terminated a 2011 agreement on Russian-German governmental cultural and information centers. The decision led to the suspension of the activities of the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin.

Russian Ambassador Sergey Nechayev described Germany’s accusations against Russia as “groundless, absurd and contrary to common sense.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Moscow would respond to Germany’s actions.

It is worth recalling that on August 4, a drone carrying explosives was discovered at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany. The drone was found near Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft and was subsequently neutralized.
