6.2-magnitude earthquake strikes near the coast of Antarctica

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck the Scotia Sea near the coast of Antarctica, TodayPress TV reports, citing the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, 1,330 kilometers from Tolhuin and 1,368 kilometers east-southeast of Ushuaia, in Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego Province.

According to the US National Weather Service, there is no tsunami threat to the coasts of the Caribbean. The USGS assigned the event a green alert level, indicating a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

This is the second significant seismic event recorded in the region in recent weeks. On July 18, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in the area.
