UEFA and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) are considering the creation of a joint Nations League.

TodayPress TV reports, citing The Guardian, that the project is reportedly being discussed as a response to FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell part of the broadcasting and commercial rights to the World Cup.

The new tournament is expected to feature 96 national teams from UEFA and CONCACAF. The first season of the revamped Nations League is planned for 2028.

Under the proposal, the group stage would be held in the autumn, play-off matches in March, and the final stage in June. The tournament is planned to take place every two years.

The new format is expected to resemble the current Nations League, with teams divided into different leagues. For example, League A could include Spain, England, France and Germany from Europe, as well as the United States, Mexico and Canada from North America.

Currently, UEFA and CONCACAF stage their Nations League matches during the same international windows allocated for national teams. This factor could facilitate the creation of a new joint tournament.

However, it remains unclear whether the project will receive FIFA’s approval.
