German Foreign Minister visits Ukraine ahead of Independence Day
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has visited Ukraine, TodayPress TV reports, citing the German Foreign Office.
The diplomat’s visit comes ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day, which is celebrated on August 24.
During the visit, Wadephul also plans to discuss with the Ukrainian leadership issues related to military support for the country’s armed forces and deepening security cooperation between Kyiv and Berlin.
The German Foreign Office noted that preparations for the upcoming winter are at the center of the visit. This includes the provision of generators, spare parts and other energy technologies, support for Ukraine’s energy sector, as well as measures to protect critical infrastructure, according to the statement.
On August 20, Bloomberg reported that Ukraine could face its harshest winter since the beginning of the conflict with Russia amid depleted stocks of missiles for air defense systems.
Earlier, the German foreign minister said he wanted to discuss changes within the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Ukraine.
