Zelensky’s latest statement: Azerbaijanis were on the targeted vessel
A Turkish civilian vessel carrying corn in neutral waters was struck by two Russian drones.
TodayPress TV reports, citing Axar.az, that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote about this on his Telegram channel.
“There were citizens of Azerbaijan and India on board. Unfortunately, it is currently known that the ship’s captain was killed. I offer my condolences. The fate of another person is being determined. Eleven crew members were rescued, one of them injured,” Zelensky said.
According to him, Ukraine has repeatedly proposed concrete steps to de-escalate tensions and ensure security in the Black Sea.
“There have also been proposals from third countries. However, instead of normal maritime operations, Russia consistently chooses terrorism and the sinking of civilian vessels. Pressure is needed to restore global food security. And everyone who is genuinely interested in this issue should help,” he said.
It should be noted that today the Turkish-flagged vessel “Royad Mammadov”, which was carrying grain from Ukraine to Italy, came under a drone attack approximately 20 nautical miles off the coast of Romania.
