Spectacular victory in Mexico: Jovic retains her title and rewrites the record books

World No. 16 and American tennis player Iva Jovic, aged 18 years and 282 days when the tournament began, became the youngest player to retain a WTA tournament title since Maria Sharapova did so in Birmingham in 2004–2005.

TodayPress TV reports, citing the OptaAce statistics platform, that Jovic also became the youngest American tennis player to achieve the feat since Venus Williams in Miami in 1998–1999.

It should be recalled that Iva Jovic retained her title at the WTA 500 tournament held in Guadalajara, Mexico, last week. In the final, she defeated fellow American Peyton Stearns 6–4, 6–2.

Iva Jovic will play her next match at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, China, scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 11.
