On October 7, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and addressed a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), held in the “Avaza” National Tourism Zone as part of his working visit to Turkmenistan.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to TodayPress TV, in his address, the minister emphasized the particular importance of adhering to the fundamental norms and principles of international law amid growing global tensions, stressing that cooperation among countries based on mutual respect and interests is an important factor for regional stability, security and sustainable development.

The address noted the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the CIS and the 20th anniversary of the Interstate Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation, emphasizing the Commonwealth’s role as a platform for equal dialogue and multilateral cooperation. Speaking about the important place of humanitarian cooperation on the agenda, the minister highlighted the significance of the Priority Action Plan for 2027–2028, which includes more than 200 events. It was also noted that the 3rd CIS Games held in Azerbaijan and events organized in Lachin as part of the “CIS Cultural Capital of 2025” made an important contribution to cooperation in culture, youth and sports across the Commonwealth.

It was stated that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing interaction with CIS states in the trade, economic and transport sectors. Attention was drawn to the positive dynamics in trade turnover, as well as the consistent development of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors, port and railway infrastructure as a result of Azerbaijan’s favorable geographic location and large-scale investments in infrastructure. These steps were said to contribute to fully realizing the region’s transit and economic potential.

In conclusion, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to the principles of good-neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with all CIS states. He wished Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov success as his country assumes the upcoming chairmanship of the CIS and noted that Azerbaijan is ready to provide the necessary support in addressing the tasks ahead.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on a number of multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, as well as consideration of several draft decisions to be adopted by the heads of state and government.
