These scientists awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
The laureates of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry have been announced.
TodayPress TV reports that Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai have been named the 2026 laureates in chemistry.
Why were they awarded the prize?
They were awarded the prize for the discovery of nonlinear effects and the phenomenon of autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis.
Brief information about the new Nobel laureates
Henri Boris Kagan was born in France in 1930. He is an honorary professor at the University of Paris-Sud. He is considered one of the pioneers of asymmetric catalysis, and his research has had a significant impact on the pharmaceutical industry. In 1986, Kagan discovered the first examples of nonlinear effects in asymmetric catalysis and developed mathematical models explaining these processes.
Kenso Soai is a Japanese organic chemist born in 1950. He worked at the Tokyo University of Science. He is known for his research into asymmetric and enantioselective synthesis, asymmetric autocatalysis and the origin of chirality. The Soai reaction, named after the scientist, is one of the best-known examples of asymmetric autocatalysis.
Who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry?
It should be recalled that Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi were named the 2025 Nobel laureates in chemistry.
