Germany escapes US dependence but does not want to fall into France’s ‘trap’

Germany is concerned that France’s Arcadia artificial intelligence system, developed for use on the battlefield, could replace dependence on the United States with dependence on France.

TodayPress TV reports that German internal documents state that cooperation with Arcadia should not undermine the country’s efforts to create a sovereign platform for data integration.

Germany and France want to develop an alternative to Palantir’s Maven system, which NATO acquired in 2025. However, the two countries have yet to reach an agreement on which of them will lead the project.

Arcadia is based on defence technologies developed by French companies Mistral AI, Safran, Thales and Airbus.

The European Commission, meanwhile, has rejected France’s applications for funding for the project. The Commission said Arcadia does not meet the criteria for projects serving a common European interest.

Meanwhile, Germany is reportedly developing its own data platform in secret.
