US launches drone trade war against China: Tariffs “soar”
03.09.2026 19:42

The administration of US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs of up to 100% on imported unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), TodayPress TV reports, citing The New York Times.

The decision primarily targets Chinese manufacturers, which dominate the sector, and aims to boost domestic drone production in the United States.

The highest tariff will apply to drones weighing more than 25 kilograms or equipped with thermal imaging systems. A 25% tariff has been set for smaller drones.

The decision has sparked discontent among police and fire departments, as well as companies that use Chinese-made drones. Industry representatives say US manufacturers currently lack the capacity to fully meet the demand that the new tariffs are expected to create.
