Polish athletes may be barred from the Olympics due to arrest of Polish Olympic Committee chief
Polish athletes may be deprived of the right to participate in the Olympic Games due to the arrest of Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) President Radosław Piesiewicz.
According to TodayPress TV, citing a letter sent to the Polish Olympic Committee, Onet reported that Piesiewicz is suspected of accepting a bribe from a bankrupt cryptocurrency company.
The PKOl president was detained on August 27 and remanded in custody for three months. He could face up to eight years in prison.
According to the report, the International Olympic Committee is considering three possible options regarding the PKOl. These include Piesiewicz voluntarily resigning, the suspension of the powers of the organization’s president, and the suspension of the Polish Olympic Committee’s activities.
The implementation of the last option could result in Polish athletes being barred from participating in the Olympic Games.
It should be noted that the next Summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
