The gesture of offering Azerbaijani water carries great significance in diplomacy, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has always liked to draw attention to non-standard gestures, actions and expressions during such diplomatic meetings. This is an approach characteristic of him, and his offering Azerbaijani water to the Iranian president during the meeting was undoubtedly loaded with important messages. There is no doubt that offering water brought from the liberated territories of Nakhchivan and Kalbajar carries a particularly important and powerful message.
In other words, offering water from the liberated territories, as well as water from Nakhchivan — it should not be forgotten that we are talking about an integral part of Azerbaijan — is highly significant.
At the same time, certain forces in Iran, with the exception of President Pezeshkian, have taken anti-Azerbaijani positions. They have referred to the Zangezur issue and corridor as a “red line.”
The third issue is that there are anti-Azerbaijani forces in Iran that have caused great regret and have made accusations against Azerbaijan. They have attempted to issue historical threats, and this was a very powerful response to them:
“To be like water, to be pure and calm like water, while also being clean… Dirty approaches must not be introduced into relations between us.”
