First death from West Nile virus recorded in Israel
The number of West Nile fever cases in Israel has reached 17.
TodayPress TV, citing RIA Novosti, reports that the country’s Ministry of Health provided the information.
The number of confirmed cases has increased from 13 to 17, with one of them resulting in death.
“Most patients have developed symptoms characteristic of the disease, including fever, rash and impaired consciousness,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been detected in Petah Tikva, Kafr Qasim, Kafr Bara, Ben Gurion Airport, as well as in the areas of the Central Arava and Brenner Regional Councils.
In August, Israel’s Ministry of Health announced that the first death from West Nile fever this season had been recorded.
Seasonal outbreaks of West Nile fever occur in Israel every year. Cases of the disease are usually reported between June and November.
